Have you ever needed a card for a special anniversary and found yourself completely stumped for ideas? Milestone anniversaries can feel like they deserve something extra special, but creating an elegant card doesn’t have to be complicated!

For this week’s 3-Element Thursday, I’m making a beautiful 50th anniversary card using just three design elements: texture, gold, and washi tape. Together, they create a sophisticated design that looks far more elaborate than it actually is.

I have included a complete visual list of the supplies currently available in the next section, and a detailed list of the tools I use regularly at the end of the blog post for your convenience. If a supply wasn’t available when I recorded this, I have linked a similar item for you to check out.

Card Measurements

The finished card measures 5″ x 7″

  • Card base: 10″ x 7″, scored at 5″
  • Gold mat: 4¾” × 6¾”
  • Blush embossed panel: 4⅜” X 6⅜”

Design Element 1: Texture

Texture takes centre stage in the background. An embossed panel adds beautiful dimension and catches the light, creating subtle visual interest without competing with the focal point. It’s a simple way to make a card feel more luxurious while keeping the overall design clean and elegant.

Design Element 2: Gold Accents

Gold is the perfect choice for a 50th anniversary! A gold mat frames the embossed panel, while the sentiment sits on a matching gold mat and is raised with foam tape for added dimension. The gold sentiment ties everything together, reinforcing the celebratory feel of this milestone occasion.

Design Element 3: Washi Tape

Washi tape brings the design to life. I used coordinating washi tape flowers, cut with their matching dies, and arranged them in a soft arc to create the focal point. The flowers feature delicate gold details that complement the other gold accents beautifully.

One of the things I love about washi tape is how quickly it can transform a card. You get coordinated colours and patterns without having to spend time colouring individual images. It’s a wonderful option when you want a polished result without a lot of fuss!

A few gold sparkle gems add the finishing touch, bringing just the right amount of shimmer to the design.

Don’t Forget the Envelope!

Of course, the card wouldn’t be complete without a coordinating envelope! I used leftover washi stickers to decorate it, along with large gold number balloon die-cuts featuring the number 50 and an elegant stamped Congrats sentiment.

It’s a lovely way to carry the design through to the envelope and make the entire presentation feel special.

The best part? This card comes together quickly, yet it has all the elegance you’d want for a golden anniversary. It’s a great reminder that you don’t need lots of layers, complicated techniques, or hours of crafting to create something beautiful. Sometimes, three well-chosen design elements are all you need!
