In this tutorial, I share a few easy steps to elevate your card-making with vibrant and no-shed glitter Astro Pastes and unique patterns from Altenew.

As part of the Altenew Educator Program assignments, I wanted to create a stunning textured design using the new Astro Paste bundle by Simon Hurley, a beautiful Altenew stencil and wide washi tape! This lesson was all about adding shine and I chose to add the shine in layers – the glittery Astro Paste and the gorgeous gold-splattered washi tape.

Step 2: Create the Motif / Centrepiece
- Stencil with Astro Paste: Secure Altenew’s Leaf Burst Stencil on the 6×6 in. card stock with some low tack tape or washi tape. Using Simon Hurley’s Astro Paste, and the palette knife from the Paste Tool set, apply a bit of all the colours around the centre of the stencil. Now, with the scraper tool from the set, drag the paste down to the edge of the stencil, making sure to keep the scraping tool angled as close to the stencil as possible. Holding the scraping tool upright will make it difficult to deposit the paste evenly on the card stock.
- Dry the Paste: Once you’ve applied the paste, use a heat tool to dry the motif thoroughly or let it air dry. Ensure it’s completely dry before moving on to the next step. This will create a beautifully vibrant and textured motif.
- Fussy Cut the Motif: Carefully cut out the stencilled motif with detail fussy cutting scissors. Set it aside for later.
Step 3: Prepare the Background
- Apply Washi Tape: Take Altenew’s Gold Splatter Cosmic Berry Wide Washi Tape and adhere it to a piece of Hammermill card stock.
- Cut the Background: Trim the washi tape-covered paper to a size of 3 ½ inches by 7 inches. This will serve as your card’s background panel.
- Add a Gold Accent: Cut a ½-inch wide strip of brushed gold card stock and adhere it to one of the long edges of the background piece with a tape runner to avoid glue marks on the gold card stock.
Step 4: Assemble the Card
- Adhere the Background: Align the washi tape panel horizontally to the top edge of your 5×7 card base and adhere it in place. I used
- Stamp the Sentiment: Using Altenew Permanent Black Ink, stamp the sentiment “Happy Anniversary” (or any other greeting of your choice) from the Bold Bouquet stamp set onto the bottom right corner of the card base.
Step 5: Add Dimension and Embellishments
- Attach the Motif: For added dimension, place adhesive foam bits behind the fussy-cut motif. Cut the foam bits in half if needed. Adhere the motif along the bottom edge of the Washi tape panel just above the gold strip.
- Finish with Sequins: Finally, embellish the card by adding some Altenew Gold Satin Sequins to complete the design.
Your clean and simple anniversary card is now complete! The combination of vibrant stencilling, elegant gold accents, and dimensional elements creates a striking yet minimalist design perfect for any special occasion.
