✨ Hack #1: Mirror Stamping – Double the Fun!
Want your stamped image to face the other direction? Try this:
- Place clean acetate in your stamp positioner.
- Place your card panel on the acetate and use a piece of washi tape like a hinge to secure the top of the panel.
- Stamp your image onto the acetate using a well-saturated ink pad.
- Fold your card front over the acetate and rub to transfer.
- Clean the acetate and repeat with the original stamp to create a mirrored pair.
- Use a fine-tipped pen like a Micron 01 to sharpen the mirrored image if needed.
Bonus tip: A mono eraser is perfect for removing tiny smudges.
✨ Hack #2: Sentiment Alignment with Acetate
Get perfect sentiment placement every time:
- Position the stamp on the card front and pick it up with your stamp positioning tool.
- Lay the acetate over your card front.
- Stamp your sentiment onto the acetate first to check the placement.
- Once you’re happy, stamp directly onto your card.
This trick is especially useful for layered or dimensional card designs.
✨ Hacks #3 & #4: Emboss Elegant Borders with Your Scoring Board
Create professional-looking card borders:
- Use the reverse side of your card panel to get embossed lines instead of debossed.
- Position the card panel on your scoring board.
- Add score lines ¼” in from the edge.
- If you make a mistake, gently press out the score line using your scoring tool.
- Add single or multiple straight, or diagonal lines to create elegant borders.
These simple lines add a wedding-worthy finish to any card.
✨ Hack #5: Use Paper Strips Instead of Foam Tape
Out of foam tape? Paper scraps to the rescue!
- Stack leftover cardstock strips behind your panel.
- Adhere them with glue and trim any excess.
- Adds dimension without bulk—or cost!
✨ Hack #6: Custom Envelope Liners
Elevate your card presentation:
- Measure and trim your patterned paper to fit inside your envelope. The liner needn’t cover the inside completely. Halfway down should be good enough.
- Slide the patterned paper into your envelope keeping the adhesive strip free of the patterned paper.
- Close the flap of the envelope and burnish it down with a bone folder so the envelope liner is nice creased.
- Apply glue to the folded part of the patterned paper.
- Close the envelope to press and fold neatly.
Optional: Add coordinating paper to the back of the envelope for extra flair.
✨ Hack #7: DIY Stencil with Packaging Tape
No matching stencil? Make your own!
- Cover a piece of card stock with clear packaging tape. You can omit the packaging tape if you only plan on using ink and reusing the die-cut as a background on another card project..
- Die-cut your design through it (multiple passes may be needed).
- Apply it to your card panel and ink blend through the “stencil.”
- Clean the stencil with a baby wipe and reuse!
Note: Tape prevents the card stock from buckling or warping from wet media.
✨ Hack #8: Faux Letterpress with Layered Die-Cuts
Create a luxe embossed effect without a BetterPress system:
- Layer two die-cut backgrounds from heavyweight cardstock.
- Use them with your die-cutting machine and rubber embossing mat.
- The result? A beautifully embossed faux letterpress design.
You can even stencil over it for a 3-in-1 background!
✨ Hacks #9 & #10: Foam Tape Tweaks
Two clever tips for cleaner, smarter foam use:
- Hack 9: Use a black Sharpie to colour white foam tape edges so they blend into dark card bases. You can create custom colours for your coloured card panels.
- Hack 10: Only peel part of the foam tape backing at first—acts like a “spring” so you can reposition easily before final placement.
✨ Hack #11: Perfect Sentiment Spacing with Negative Die-Cuts
For precise alignment:
- Save the negative from your sentiment die-cut.
- Use it as a guide to stack your die-cuts neatly.
- Stick the final layer on top and peel the guide away. Voilà—perfect placement!
✨ Hack #12: Grid Letter Spacing with Press’n Seal
Add die-cut words with pro-level spacing:
- Place letters on a grid mat and align with a T-ruler.
- Use Press’n Seal to lift and move them.
- Glue onto your card and press down.
Perfect for names and custom messages!
✨ Hack #13: Make Your Liquid Embellishments Look Like Enamel Dots
No more pointy drops!
- Add drops of liquid embellishment (like Pops of Color).
- Tap the back of your card to round them out.
- Let dry completely for a smooth, professional finish.
